About Irina

Irina Mukhamedshina

Born in Russia. Lives and works in London, UK

Originally specialising in realistic art at the Russian Academy of Art, her versatile and distinct art has garnered her an international fame. Perhaps it can come as a surprise that Irina also was literature and philosophy major at RUDN University Of Moscow.

Irina’s filter-friendly palette flourished at the beautiful sunny gardens of UK countryside even though it was originated while she was living in Cyprus and Russia.

Along with that her most recognisable collection is dedicated to North and Antarctic Expedition series of paintings. The work «Great Way to Antarctica. Bellinshausen and Lasarev» (2013) illustrates the historical event of its discovery that became great part of human history. While her «Silence of Iceland» (2016) impresses with its light and monumentality.

Irina says, I often have a vague idea when I start painting. Beginning with just a couple of lines on a page or canvas, the image almost creates itself and I add hidden details within it for the viewer to find, such as dates or characters.

It’s not necessary for me to create on canvas an exact copy of the things that I see, the most important is to reflect arising emotions and impressions.
